INTERAGENCY GRIZZLY BEAR COMMITTEE

BOZEMAN – The current Yellowstone grizzly population remains healthy, with 58 different females with cubs seen across the ecosystem in 2013, which is the highest number of females with cubs ever reported in the Yellowstone ecosystem.

At the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee Yellowstone Ecosystem Subcommittee’s fall meeting in Bozeman, Nov. 6-7, agencies that manage grizzly recovery will cover the status of the ecosystem population and present annual conflict reports.

The Yellowstone ecosystem grizzly bear recovery area includes all of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, as well as parts of northwest Wyoming, eastern Idaho, and southwest Montana. Other federal lands include the Beaverhead-Deerlodge, the Bridger-Teton, the Caribou-Targhee, and the Custer, Gallatin and Shoshone National Forests.

Charged with the species’ recovery in this ecosystem, YES is made up of federal, state, county, and tribal agency partners, and is part of the IGBC, which is responsible for grizzly bear recovery in the contiguous U.S. and adjoining Canadian provinces.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. on Nov. 6 in the Larkspur Room of the Hilton Garden Inn in Bozeman. Proceedings will resume at 8 a.m. on Nov. 7, and conclude by noon. The public is welcome to attend all sessions and time for public comment will be included at the end of each day.

Individuals requiring special assistance can contact Gregg Losinski at glosinski@idfg.idaho.gov or through the Idaho Relay Service at (800) 377-3529. A copy of the meeting agenda will be posted before the meeting at the YES portion of the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee website at igbconline.org.
