USPS opens Big Sky post office

This morning, July 15, the United States Postal Service opened its new post office in Big Sky, the community’s first federally operated post office.
The post office is located at 110 Meadow Village Dr., around the corner from the now-retired Big Sky Post Office, which operated for decades under contract with USPS—the old location will keep its P.O. box lobby open through Saturday, July 20, to allow P.O. box-holders to pick up remaining mail.
A federally operated post office comes with advantages, according to a July 15 press release from USPS. The retail office will offer stamps, domestic and international mailing services, parcel lockers and smart lockers, and nearly 2,000 more P.O. boxes. The P.O. boxes and parcel lockers will be open 24/7.
“We are excited to be able to open the new retail office to better serve the Big Sky community,” Eric Gilbert, USPS’ acting district manager for Montana, stated in the release. “A larger, postal owned location means more availability to meet all our customers’ mailing and shipping needs.”
Customers who previously had a P.O. box in Big Sky will keep their assigned box size and number, but they will need to retrieve a new key at the new post office. Proper photo identification will be necessary to pick up new keys.
The new facility will operate its retail center Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The P.O. box lobby will be open 24/7, and parcels will be delivered to boxes Monday through Saturday by 11 a.m.
