Two people were mauled by a bear Friday, May 13 in the Gallatin National Forest north of Big Sky. The victims were transported by ambulance to a Bozeman hospital. Their injuries were non life-threatening.
The attack occurred at about 2 p.m. near the Deer Creek Trail. Forest Service Spokeswoman Daley said the Forest has lifted the area closure but the Deer Creek Trail and trailhead still remain closed due to a number of carcasses in the area.
Warden Sam Sheppard with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks said investigators interviewed one or both of the victims, and agency personnel were in Deer Creek to assess the situation.
May 16-20 is national bear awareness week.
