While longtime Montanans may be unfazed by the news, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for much of the state’s southwest region. The watch is in effect Monday evening, June 17 through Tuesday evening, June 18.
Affected areas include the Gallatin, Madison, Elkhorn, Boulder and Centennial mountain ranges, and Wisdom, Clancy, Montana City, Big Hole Pass, Big Sky, Targhee Pass, Elk Park Pass, Dewey, Wickes, Wise River, Boulder, Raynolds Pass, Chief Joseph Pass, Homestake Pass, Corbin and West Yellowstone. Heavy, wet snow accumulating to four to eight inches is possible.
The winter storm watch warns those in affected areas that travel could be difficult and those in the backcountry should ensure they have appropriate knowledge and gear, and may want to consider alternate plans.
