A winter storm watch has been issued for Sunday, April 27 through the morning of Monday, April 28. The National Weather Service in Great Falls predicts that most precipitation will happen between the evening hours April 27 and April 28.
NWS explained that a slow moving weather system from the Pacific will result in widespread rain/snow in southwest and central Montana.
“This snow will be heavy and wet, which may pose a danger to trees and power lines, especially as trees begin to come out of dormancy,” the April 25 report stated. Total snow accumulations could be up to eight inches. Big Sky residents can expect temperatures to dip as low as 35F on Sunday night.
The storm could impact power lines and could cause power outages. Drivers on Monday should take caution on roads as travel may be “very difficult.”
Moving into next week, Gallatin County residents may learn whether the spring snow showers will bring May flowers.
