BOZEMAN – Bozeman’s curbside recycling program is simplifying.
The city commission this fall approved a new single-bin recycling program, giving city solid waste customers the option of single-stream recycling to their bi-monthly recycling pickup. Customers can now place all recyclables (including paper products, plastics, aluminum and metal cans and cardboard) into one 100 or 65 gallon green tote to be picked up curbside every other week.
The reasoning behind the switch: During a pilot program tested in a handful of Bozeman residences, the single bin system caused a notable increase of recyclables in comparison to the previous sorted bins, according to Bozeman Solid Waste Supt. Kevin Handelin.
The city has more than 1, 270 residents enrolled in its recycling program and is encouraging additional residents to sign up, reducing the amount of trash transported to the landfill.
The city recycling truck was recently branded and ‘wrapped’, making it a visible reminder to “inspire residents who are not yet recycling customers to enroll in the straightforward and inexpensive community program,” according to a press release.
