SHANE LALANI CENTER FOR THE ARTS
A production of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “South Pacific” will be performed entirely by students of Livingston’s Park High School at the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts’ Dulcie Theatre on weekends beginning Friday, May 5 through Sunday, May 21. Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
Set in an island paradise during World War II, “South Pacific” follows two parallel love stories, each threatened by prejudice and war. Arkansas nurse Nellie Forbush falls in love with a French plantation owner, and Lieutenant Joe Cable finds himself in a passionate affair with a native girl.
As the war against Japan escalates, both struggle to reconcile their unconventional loves with their own prejudices and insecurities. Full of enchanting music, “South Pacific” is considered by many to be Rodgers and Hammerstein’s greatest collaboration.
