Nearly half of the elementary school home sick

It seems as soon as a heavy traffic of visitors came, it left. In its post-New Year’s wake it may have left behind a flu-like virus called Norwalk that has plagued the Ophir School and town this week.
The virus may have hit the hallways of Ophir this week, and 40 percent of the elementary students went home today with a bug, according to superintendent Jerry House.
House sent letters to parents Wednesday afternoon advising them of the bug’s presence at school.
“There is a stomach flu going around and we seem to be getting our fair share of it,” House wrote in an email Wednesday.
Symptoms are likened to a severe case of the stomach flu, and residents have been advised to take extra precautions toward keeping well.
