Free ice cream. I repeat, free ice cream.
On Friday, Aug. 2 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., the Big Sky Community Organization and Big Sky Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting event for BSCO’s new community playground. The playground is ADA-accessible—a Big Sky first, according to BSCO—and located at the Big Sky Community Park between Camp Big Sky and BSCO’s new maintenance facility.
Ice cream will be provided free of charge by Scoops to celebrate the new playground at Friday’s ribbon-cutting event.
Madeleine Feher, director of operations for BSCO, explained in a phone call that the new public facility features three different age-based playgrounds—a smaller area for young kids, a larger-scale area for older kids, and a zip-line for the oldest and boldest.
“So you have a little something for everybody,” Feher said.
The playground was designed using naturescape practices to match the surrounding hillside by inContour, a Bozeman-based landscape architecture firm. Unlike traditional playgrounds, it was built without metal railings—wood was the primary building material—and integrates natural features like boulders, rocks and stumps, Feher explained.
Everything is climbable, and the playground’s surfacing material meets high safety standards, Feher added.
The playground renovation was funded by BSCO with support from Resort Tax grants and community contributions.
