Visitors will have one last spooky day on most of Yellowstone National Park’s roads on Halloween, Oct. 31 before multiple entrances and roads close the next day. On Nov. 1, the West, South and East entrances along with most roads in the park will close, according to an Oct. 23 Yellowstone press release. Each year the park closes around this time to prepare for the Dec. 15 start date of winter season and snowmobile and snowcoach season.
The North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and the Northeast Entrance in Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana (via Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Junction and Lamar Valley) are the only roads open year-round.
Due to variable conditions as winter sets in, visitors are recommended to prepare for changing weather, have flexible travel plans, anticipate closures and stay up-to-date on Yellowstone road conditions. Visitors can sign up for road alerts by texting “82190” to 888-777 or they can call (307) 344-2117 for a recorded message about the park’s conditions.
Meanwhile, towns near the park will remain open year-round with local businesses in Gardiner, West Yellowstone, Cooke City and Silver Gate offering opportunities for recreation.
