Dear Editor,
It was New Year’s Eve day when I discovered that I scratched my eye. I thought it would get better but as the day progressed, so did the pain and discomfort. My husband drove me to the B2 Urgent Care center at the base of the mountain as we live nearby.
This is when the outstanding service began. Upon check-in, they first checked with the nurse if they had ophthalmology medicine at this location so as to not waste my time. They confirmed they did so I waited to be seen by the nurse. Amy, the nurse was very professional and recommended based on my poor vision and intense pain, that I should ideally see the eye doctor in the village. Amy went out of her way to call the eye doctor but did not get an answer—no surprise, it was a Sunday and it was New Year’s Eve. Amy advised best to go to the Big Sky Medical Center where they would have more equipment than the B2 Urgent Care center has and that she would call ahead to them so they were aware I was coming and possibly avoid the wait in ER.
Partway down the mountain road, Amy called me to say she got hold of the eye doctor, Erica Perlman and to go directly to her office. Seriously? I was so grateful that Amy was persistent to reach Dr. Perlman and thankful and appreciative that Erica would come in on Sunday, New Year’s Eve to see me. These are both extreme examples of going the extra mile and really caring for the people in their community.
We met Dr. Perlman at her office, Big Sky Eyes. She was incredibly professional. A quick look into my eye and she said, I am indeed lucky that she was around. She put drops in and put a healing contact lens over the tear to help it heal. She checked, the pharmacy at Big Sky Medical Center was closed, so she gave me some antibiotic eye drops and moisturizing drops from her cupboard. She booked a follow-up appointment to remove the contact lens and check how my eye was healing.
The Big Sky medical community is truly outstanding. Professional in every way. They care about their patients and their community. They go the extra mile and I am truly grateful. Thank you, Amy and Erica.
Sincerely,
Karen Chisholm
