The Gallatin County Attorney’s Office will review the circumstances of the death of 39-year-old Michael Roger, who died in an officer-involved shooting with the Bozeman Police Department on April 3, 2023.
The incident occurred on Greenmore Court in Bozeman, according to an Oct. 23 press release from the county attorney’s office. The office will hold the inquest on Oct. 30 at the Law and Justice Center in Bozeman.
“A coroner’s inquest is a formal inquiry into the causes and circumstances surrounding the death of a person caused by a peace officer,” a release from the office stated.
Nine randomly selected jurors will hear all the evidence and then render a verdict by majority vote. They will determine who the deceased person is, the circumstances of their death, if the person died by criminal means and who would be responsible for committing the act.
“Witnesses will include involved officers, other eyewitnesses, a pathologist, and investigator from the Montana Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation,” the release stated.
