WARREN MILLER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
Big Sky gained two gallery spaces in December, with the installation of the Warren Miller Performing Art Center’s first formal art exhibits.
“Motion,” which hangs in the student exhibition hall, features the work of Lone Peak High School students Joe McGough and Dasha Bough. Their color photography explores both energy and movement in a series of wistful and haunting images.
Hanging in the Buck’s T-4 gallery space is another exhibit, “Move. Play.” Featuring works from Creighton Block and Gallatin River galleries, as well as Bozeman artists such as Susan Blackwood and Diana Tremaine, this exhibit is themed to coincide with upcoming events in the theater (the James Sewell Ballet and Second City). It’s also a reflection of life in a ski town.
Plans for the gallery spaces call for that art that is thematic and collaborative, or involves an individual artist’s body of work. Upcoming themes include storytelling, to coincide with The Moth performance at WMPAC in January, and innovation, to coincide with the appearance of avant-garde composer Mark Applebaum at the performing arts center in March.
Creighton Block Gallery sponsors the student exhibition space. The galleries are open during the school day and before and during performances.
Arts and performance scholarships available
Thanks to a generous grant from The Dash Family Foundation, WMPAC can now offer local students scholarships to attend arts classes or camps, as well as complimentary tickets for performances. A teacher recommendation is required.
