BOZEMAN – The Forest Service’s ongoing work continues at the Fairy Lake Recreation Area to improve the Fairy Lake Campground and trailhead facilities. The Bozeman Ranger District has closed the recreation site for public safety reasons while work is ongoing. The Fairy Lake road will remain open providing access to Shafthouse Trail #540.
Visitors can expect to see logging trucks on the Fairy Lake Road for the next two weeks. People are urged to drive carefully and cautiously when using Fairy Lake Road and Highway 86 given the increase in truck and construction traffic.
Improvements to the recreation area include: renovating the campground, trailhead and campground roads, campsite spurs and parking areas, installing new recreation facilities, and removing hazard trees affected by Tomentosus root rot. Construction activities are expected to continue through the remainder of the summer and fall. Portions of the site will reopen for day use only activities as construction progresses however; the site will remain closed to camping until construction is complete.
