Sheriff Dan Springer provides statement on safety plan
Donald Trump will hold a rally at Montana State University in Bozeman on Friday, Aug. 9, according to a July 31 announcement from Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer.
The rally is planned for 8 p.m. at MSU’s Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Registration is required to attend.
An Aug. 1 statement from Springer provided additional details about ensuring a safe and peaceful visit from the former president; Gallatin County has a “proud history of hosting high-profile visits,” according to the statement.
“Our top priority is the safety of the dignitaries and all attendees at the rally,” Springer stated. “We are working closely with the U.S. Secret Service and our local and state law enforcement partners to ensure a secure environment for everyone involved.”
The Sheriff’s Office is developing an incident action plan with the assistance of Gallatin County Emergency Management, collaborating with local law enforcement agencies including Montana State University Police, Bozeman Police Department, Belgrade Police Department, Montana Highway Patrol, Montana Department of Criminal Investigation, Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport Police, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and other first responders.
The release added that neither the campaign nor the federal government pays for any services provided by local first responders, but the law enforcement agencies have contingencies built into their budgets for events like this one.
“We value our strong relationships with federal partners and are confident in our ability to execute a plan that prioritizes the safety of all,” Springer stated.
Law enforcement agencies will provide more information in the coming week as planning progresses.
