Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks announced its 2024 recreational trail program award recipients. This year, FWP received $1.5 million to allocate to organizations and agencies. The agency received 47 grant applications totaling $2.4 million in funds.
Several southwest Montana organizations were mentioned in the list of recipients, including Custer Gallatin National Forest, Gallatin Valley Land Trust and the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center.
Custer Gallatin National Forest’s Bozeman Ranger District was awarded $35,000 for 2024 year-round trail maintenance and volunteer leadership projects. The Painted Hills trail will see improvements with a $34,360 award for the Gallatin Valley Land Trust’s enhancement plans. Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center was awarded $30,000 for avalanche forecasting in southwest Montana.
Other recipients include a $90,000 grant for West Yellowstone’s Chamber of Commerce for snowmobile maintenance, and a $32,000 for Nordic trail grooming and operations for Bridger Ski Foundation.
