A public comment period about a plan to make Gallatin County roads safer will close on Jan. 5. The Safe Street for All Virtual Open House aims to collect public input, share research on road safety and identify roads for safety improvements in Gallatin County. The Safe Streets for All Action Plan will be funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law with a goal of preventing roadway deaths and serious injuries.
Between Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2023, Gallatin County roads saw 6,739 crashes—excluding crashes in urban centers Bozeman and Belgrade. Thirty-three of those crashes led to 38 deaths. The data is provided by a partnership between Gallatin County government and Robert Peccia and Associates, an engineering firm.
Participants can fill out a survey noting focus points important to them. They can also submit a safety concern on a Gallatin County map, noting dangers for vehicles, non-motorists and transit.
