The MSU Bobcats won their first playoff game against Stony Brook of New York on Saturday evening, Dec. 1 at Bobcat Stadium by a score of 16-10. It was the first ever playoff game under the lights at Bobcat Stadium.
MSU (11-1) scored first on a 69 yard pass play from McGhee to Bleskin and never trailed. It was their only touchdown of the game. They added field goals in each of the next three quarters. The Stony Brook Sea Wolves managed just one field goal in the first half and a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Once again the Cat defense shined, holding Stony Brook to just 245 total yards, significantly below their normal average.
The Sea Wolves were threatening late in the forth quarter when the Cats recovered a fumble and ran out the clock. The Cats’ next game is against Sam Houston State in the quarter-finals of the tournament at Bobcat Stadium on Dec. 8. Game time has yet to be determined. Sam Houston State knocked the Cats out of the tournament last year in Texas so the Cats are looking forward to a rematch on their home turf.
