The Bozeman Ice Fest has returned for its 27th year from Dec. 6 to 10. The event teaches hands-on ice climbing in Hyalite Canyon, “one of America’s longest and most influential histories in waterfall ice climbing,” according to the Bozeman Ice Fest website.
The weekend-long festival welcomes climbers of all levels to ice climbing, mixed climbing and alpinism with day clinics. For those looking for events in the evening, Evenings at the Emerson feature panels of experienced climbers and alpinists as well as the chance to see documentaries about different adventures and lessons learned along the way.
Tonight, Dec. 7, the Emerson Center for the Arts and Culture will show the film “Jirishanca” followed by a panel discussion about the current and future world of alpinism with Jack Tackle, Anne Gilbert Chase, Whit Magro, Molly Kawahata, Matt Cornell and Andres Marin.
On Friday, Aaron Mulkey will speak on balancing a full-time job with record-breaking ascents.
