During a Bozeman City Commission meeting on Tuesday evening, March 26, Commissioner Christopher Coburn announced he will resign effective May 7.

Coburn joined the commission in April 2021, winning his run for a four-year term in November of that year. His “bittersweet” decision was driven by personal reasons, according to a March 27 press release from the City of Bozeman. He expressed a desire to stay engaged with city happenings after he leaves his role and moves out of Bozeman.

“I have not stopped and will not stop caring about the future of Bozeman—the people who live here now and the people who might live here in the years to come,” Coburn said during his announcement. “I’m fully committed to spending my remaining time in [this] community with you, continuing to work just as hard as I have for the past three years I have been in this role. It has been and continues to be such an honor.”

When Coburn’s resignation goes into effect in May, the City Commission will be required by state law to appoint his replacement within 30 days.

The appointed commission member will serve until the next municipal election, to be held in November 2025, according to the release.
