On April 8, Stephen Capra, executive director of Missoula-based organization, Bold Visions Conservation, will share his vision for a new national monument for Madison and Gallatin national forests. Capra has led projects that created two national monuments in New Mexico—Rio Grande del Norte and Organ Mountain Desert Peaks.
The presentation will be held at the Bozeman Public Library’s community room on April 8 at 6:30 p.m., according to a press release from Bold Visions Conservation
“The Yellowstone Ecosystem shelters populations of iconic, threatened wildlife like grizzly bears, wolves, bison, wolverines, and bighorn sheep,” Capra stated in the release. “But it’s becoming ever clearer that Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks are not big enough to assure long term survival of these species.”
The monument would protect 1.6 million acres of Madison and Gallatin national forest lands, including land around Island Park, Idaho. “Bold Visions hopes to convince President Biden to set aside this national monument,” the release stated.
