Canvass tomorrow will determine whether a recount is necessary

Preliminary results for the Big Sky Resort Area District tax board show two clear winners for the three open seats and a tie for the final spot on the board.
Mike Scholz garnered the most votes, according to the early data, which will become official only after tomorrow’s canvass. Scholz’s 389 votes were 107 more than the next candidate, James Kabisch, with 282.
Loren Bough, an incumbent member of the voluntary tax board, tied with Jeff Strickler, both at 247. Tomorrow’s canvass will confirm or deny a tie, after which point the Gallatin County elections office would recount the votes. If there is a tie after a potential recount, the tax board would break the tie.
The same thing happened during the 2009 elections, and the previous board appointed the candidate to the board, according to Charlotte Mills, Gallatin County Clerk and Recorder
Voters reaffirmed Ginna Hermann to her seat. She ran unopposed.
