This story was updated at 1:14 p.m. on Feb. 7 after stolen materials were recovered.
On Sunday, Feb. 4, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office received a theft report about medical equipment stolen from Big Sky Resort’s Yellowstone Conference Center. Reporting parties stated the equipment was stolen between 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, and 7 a.m. Saturday.
In a press release at 8:50 a.m. on Feb. 7, the Sheriff’s office offered an anonymous $5,000 award to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity during those hours—or who has seen the stolen equipment elsewhere—and can provide information that leads to the recovery of stolen items.
However, a follow-up press release at 12:33 p.m. stated that the materials—several Pelican hard cases and cardboard shipping boxes containing specialized medical equipment including ultrasound machines and transducers, training equipment and medical journal magazines—had been recovered.
“A third-party shipping company at the resort for an unrelated event, mistakenly repackaged all the items and transported them to a warehouse in the Gallatin Valley,” stated the updated press release from the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office.
“Due to the repackaging none of the items were observed being moved out of the facility on security cameras. The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the public and businesses who assisted in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion.”
