The Beartooth Highway opened on Friday morning, May 23, allowing travelers to drive the entire 68 miles of the highway from Red Lodge to Cooke City. This also marks an annual major migration for skiers and snowboarders from around the world to the high Beartooth Mountains.

The Montana Department of Transportation and the National Park Service conducted the spring road clearing and maintenance.

The Chief Joseph Scenic Byway (WY 296) is also open for travel and provides access to the Beartooth Highway and the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone National Park.

Inside Yellowstone, the road over Dunraven Pass linking Canyon Village, Tower Fall and Tower Junction also opened for the season Friday morning. All other park roads and all park entrances have already opened for the season.
