The Beartooth Highway is preparing for its typical late May opening by clearing roads of the season’s snow. The road is expected to open on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, on Friday, May 24, and would remain open through mid-October.
Conditions can be unpredictable in this area due to high elevations, and there may be temporary closures in the summertime for this reason. A map is available online to learn up-to-date conditions and closures of roads.
The Montana Department of Transportation, the agency responsible for the highway’s maintenance, along with National Park Service, is documenting the process on their social media channels and sharing videos online.
