Locals and visitors from afar logged on to ExploreBigSky.com or filled out surveys by hand, weighing in on their favorites in Big Sky. This survey was conducted in a “write-in” format. Those filling out surveys had the chance to nominate anyone or any business they chose.
Thanks to all the voters for helping us dig up the best of the best, including top restaurant, après ski joint, and outdoor shop around. And congrats to the winners! We all appreciate your hard work.

Blue Moon Bakery won Best Cup of Coffee in Big Sky, boasting piping hot joe and specialty drinks from their espresso machine, including mochas, Americanos and cappuccinos. At left, Mark Nimmo whips up a a Big Sky fav. Hungry? The bakery has a full array of baked muffins and scones, as well as killer breakfast sandwiches. Topping the list of Best Mountain in Montana, Big Sky Resort took the cake. And it isn’t surprising. With 148 of 155 runs open, covering 3,656 skiable acres, Big Sky has the goods. Kim Hueftle (L) makes a mean wrap, and the Wrap Shack won Best Lunch for 2012. They offer affordable monster wraps with such names as the Smokin’ Gringo, with slow-roasted pulled pork and The Buddha, with grilled steak. Karen Macklin and Don Mattusch took over the operation in 2011 and offer something for everyone. Don’t forget to try the frozen marguerita. enthusiasts! Get your paintbrushes ready for an unforgettable experience at
Paint Under the Big Sky, a thrilling plein air event set against the stunning
backdrop of Big Sky, MT, Chet Huntley’s “The Last Best Place”. Don’t
miss this chance to unleash your creativity and be part of a vibrant artistic community.
What is Paint Under the Big Sky? PUBS is a plein air event for all painters of any ability (over the age of 16). Sponsored by the Big Sky Artist’s Studio & Gallery and the Big Sky Artists Collective, a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster a strong community of artists in the Big Sky area, the paint-out hopes to introduce painters to our extraordinary landscape for an opportunity to create, meet and have fun. Plein air painters record our landscape for generations to come.
Artists are invited to travel to Big
Sky, MT to paint anytime between Jun 1 – 28, and participate in the exhibition
and sale of paintings from June 29 – July 31.
Come join us! We have a great
