Custer Gallatin National Forest fire crews will be conducting prescribed burns this week, Sept. 30  to Oct. 4 in Hyalite Canyon and in the North Bridgers. Smoke may be visible in the area during this time.

In Hyalite Canyon, crews will be conducting a burn about a mile west of Langohr Campground. The prescribed burn will take place on 116 acres within the Bozeman Municipal Watershed Unit 19, off Langohr Road. Recreationists can expect closures on Langohr Road and neighboring trails. Langohr Campground is also closed until burning has ceased.

A second prescribed burn will take place in the North Bridgers on 34 acres near the South Fork Brackett Creek area and another 18 acres near the Lower Fairy Lake Road. Closures may be put in place on the South Brackett Road to Ross Pass trailhead, along Fairy Lake Road, as well as Loggers Loop, which begins in Crosscut Mountain Sports Center at the forest boundary.

The prescribed burns aim to reduce fuel loads and lower the risk of high severity wildland fires in the watershed, according to a press release from the USFS. More updated information can be found on the Custer Gallatin National Forest Facebook page.
