The Greater Montana Foundation has given $50,000 to the Friends of MontanaPBS local program fund in support of telling Montana stories and improving communications among citizens.
The local program fund provides seed and matching funds for MontanaPBS and allows MontanaPBS to further expand its local offerings. It has been a growing resource for MontanaPBS to produce favorites like “Backroads of Montana,” “Montana Focus,” “11th and Grant with Eric Funk” and “Montana Ag Live,” as well as in-depth documentaries. Those series will be supported in part by the Greater Montana Foundation gift this year, as will be the upcoming documentaries “Indian Relay,” “4 H” and a Smoke Elser profile, “3 Miles an Hour.”
The Greater Montana Foundation (GMF) has been supporting MontanaPBS local programming for more than two decades.
“These grants ultimately support the people of Montana by helping to encourage vibrant communications media for the state,” said Randy Morger, chairman of the GMF Board of Trustees.
Founded by pioneer broadcaster Ed Craney in 1958, the Greater Montana Foundation’s mission is to encourage communication, with an emphasis on electronic media, issues, trends and values of importance, to present and future generations of Montanans. Awards reflect new grantees, as well as on-going partnerships with a number of Montana organizations and institution.
MontanaPBS is a partnership between KUSM-TV at Montana State University in Bozeman and KUFM-TV at the University of Montana in Missoula. It currently serves more than 150 communities throughout the state and can be viewed over the air and on cable, satellite and dish networks.
