Outlaw PartnersBIG SKY – Buck’s T-4 Lodge will host one of America’s foremost fly-fishing educators Sept. 18-20 for a weekend seminar in Big Sky.
Gary Borger, recently named by Fly Fusion Magazine as one of the “Top Seven Most Influential Anglers” in the last 50 years, will conduct a two-and-a-half day seminar to raise funds for the Big Sky Young Life program. The Christian-based, locally organized and funded youth program for middle and high school students provides a safe, fun and healthy environment for its participants.
Borger started fly fishing in 1955 and has taught and lectured internationally on all aspects of fly fishing since 1972. A freelance writer and photographer, Borger is also a contributing editor for Fly Fisherman Magazine.
In 1982, Borger pioneered the use of fly-fishing instructional videos with the release of “Nymphing.” He has since produced more than 20 videos and written 10 bestselling books on fly fishing and, along with his son, Jason, is currently writing a 20-book series on the subject.
“This is a great opportunity for Big Sky,” said Larry Johnson, president and owner of Belgrade-based MAC Propane, an underwriting sponsor of the event along with Minneapolis-based Thrivent Financial. “I’m excited to learn more about my favorite sport from someone who is a nationally known expert.”
With a limit of 25 participants, beginners and experts alike will learn new skills to make their fly-fishing experience more rewarding and make new friends who love the sport.
Katie Alvin, co-owner of East Slope Outdoors, one of the event sponsors, says she’s looking forward to helping make the event happen in Big Sky. “Donated items from the fly shops in town will make the event even more special for participants,” Alvin said. “We know they’ll have great fun and learn a lot.”
The registration fee includes Borger’s instruction sessions as well as meals during the weekend-long clinic. Accommodations are available at Buck’s T-4 Lodge, and all proceeds from the seminar will be donated to the Big Sky Young Life program.
