Editorial department plays musical chairs

On June 1, the Outlaw Partners’ editorial staff changed it up. With Managing Editor Emily Wolfe moving on to Bozeman-based nonprofit Adventure Science – formerly Adventurers and Scientists for Conservation – the team restructured.

Joseph T. O’Connor became Managing Editor, in charge of Mountain Outlaw magazine and heading up the editorial department; Tyler Allen was promoted to Senior Editor, tasked with running the Explore Big Sky newspaper and continuing to manage distribution; and Maria Wyllie became Associate Editor, while maintaining her job as advertising Account Coordinator.

While some minor changes are in the works, the Outlaw editorial team will maintain the journalistic integrity that both publications strive for, bringing you the best of Big Sky and the Greater Yellowstone. As always, letters and suggestions are welcome.

Mountain Outlaw design sets the bar high

The Outlaw creative team exhaled its collective breath when the 2014 summer issue of Mountain Outlaw hit stands last week. It’s always exciting to crack open the new issue and reflect on the final product of six months of work.

For our two-person design team, this includes ad design, story layout, illustration, art direction, coordinating photographers and photo shoots, and working with the printer to get it just right.

So, it was great kudos this week to learn we received second place for Page Design in the Best of the West journalism contest, for Joseph T. O’Connor’s story “Finding room to breathe in Sayulita,” featured in the 2014 winter issue.

“I’ve been to Sayulita, and this article captures the essence very well. Its fluid layout, great focal points and overall feel makes this a great piece,” one judge wrote.

As we celebrate past and current issues we’re already trekking forward, setting the bar even higher for the next Mountain Outlaw.

Ride for the brand!

Outlaw Partners is looking for a motivated, personable and dedicated individual to join the team and help distribute the Explore Big Sky newspaper and Mountain Outlaw magazine.

This part-time position offers fun and dynamic work in and around Gallatin County, and you couldn’t ask for a more beautiful office. If you’d enjoy working with creative, motivated people and meeting folks from around the Greater Yellowstone every day, this is the job for you.

The position requires a valid Montana driver’s license and good driving record. Saddle up and ride for the brand.

Contact Tyler Allen at (406) 995-2055 or tyler@theoutlawpartners.com for details.
